Writer's Block: Fly me to the moon
Do you think space exploration is important? Is it worth the billions our governments spend?

I think it's important, but maybe not to the extent that scientists and astronomers make it. It's important to know what else is out there, but I think we should focus more on our own lands...they could spend a lot of that money on fixing Earth's problems, try to deal with global warming, help endangered species, try to fight poverty and cure so many diseases that plague a lot of Earth's populations. I think that should be the world's biggest concern, not on whether there is ice on Mars, how many planets come after Pluto, and all that jazz.

I say this while being a total space-addict. Really, space is cool, guys.

Did you know that money spent on space exploration goes toward helping people? For example, NASA has several satelites that monitor climate change and a lot of the NASA spinoff technology goes toward medical reseatch. You might be interested in these links:

I didn't know that, no. I like space, I read up on it when the opportunity presents itself, but I'd definitely consider myself terribly misinformed & ignorant about a lot of it. Space, while insanely interesting, isn't my area of expertise.

With that said, I do think that we should get to know space better, totally! It IS important. For the examples you listed above, I definitely think they should spend money on things like that. Those help Earth, and that seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to spend money on. Other stuff, such as finding out if there's water on Mars, sending out various satellites to explore places that are outside of Earth's orbit; things like that seem very unnecessary. It's all good and smart to know more than just the basics about the planets that aren't Earth but we have really big problems at home that should be dealt with first.

I don't know where you live, so this is me being the typical American thinking that everyone is from here and knows all about America's problems but America has a huge national debt. All over the world, there's an insane amount of poverty, there are a lot of medical research that needs to be done for various diseases, and without any money, these problems can't be fixed. Billions and billions of dollars go into space research and while I understand why, I just don't think it's an appropriate way for any country to spend their money.
